2018 School Safety Funding

Senate Bill 186 is the Capital Budget – responsible for funding construction projects throughout the state – including over $300 Million for school construction, and funding for highways, roads, transit, and other necessary projects.

With the support of Senate President Pro Tem Nathaniel J. McFadden, and following the tragic incidents in Parkland and Great Mills, the Legislature added an additional $10 million for capital expenses to include the safety and security of schools following facility risk assessments. These improvements may include but are not limited to secure and lockable classroom doors, areas of safe refuge within classrooms, and surveillance and other security technology for school monitoring purposes.
