Maryland is home to America’s best high schools, U.S. News & World reports


The U.S. News rankings uses data from the 2012-2013 school year.

The methodology included each state’s proficiency test standard, student demographic, economic characteristics and proportion of students passing AP and IB tests.

The top 500 schools received gold medals, while No. 501 to No. 2,527 earned silver.

Walt Whitman High School is the Maryland’s highest-rated high school.

Baltimore-area high schools receiving gold medals are:

  • Marriotts Ridge High School
  • River Hill High School
  • Severna Park High School
  • Hereford High School
  • Eastern Technical High School
  • Dulaney High School
  • Centennial High School
  • Towson High School
