A Maryland State Senator since January 9, 2019, Senator Sarah Elfreth represents Maryland’s 30th legislative district in Anne Arundel County. Before her tenure in elected office, she would achieve academic success at Johns Hopkins University (M.S., Public Policy, 2012).
Her professional career would see her make her way to public advocacy serving as the Government Affairs Director for the National Aquarium in Baltimore (2012-2016). In addition to that professional career, Elfreth embarked on a career in public service upon her election to the Maryland Senate in 2018. Since election to the Senate, Elfreth has served as a member of the Budget & Taxation Committee and its Capital Budget, Pensions, and Education, Business, & Administration Subcommittees. Additionally, she serves as the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on the Chesapeake & Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area and as a Member of the Joint Committees on Pensions, and Ending Homelessness.
Elfreth is a member of numerous committees and advocacy groups including the Women Legislators of Maryland, the Maryland Veterans Caucus, the Ward One Residents Association, the District 30 Democratic Club, and the Towson University Alumni Association.
In recognition of her advocacy efforts, Elfreth has been selected for numerous honors including the Fannie Lou Hamer Award from the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Towson University Honors Committee, and as a ‘Twenty in their Twenties’ Awardee by The Daily Record.
