Jeff Waldstreicher is a husband, father, and Maryland State Senator.
Elected to the Senate in 2018, Jeff has been a member of the Maryland General Assembly for four terms. He serves as Vice Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee.
Hailed by the Washington Post as “a reformist voice,” Jeff is a progressive who stands up for our values. In the Senate, Jeff is a champion for racial justice and leader on issues of criminal justice reform. He was an early sponsor of the “Fight for Fifteen” to raise Maryland’s minimum wage, passed historic legislation to end the sub-minimum wage for people with disabilities, and helped shepherd a bill ensuring universal background checks for gun purchases in Maryland. He proudly supports women’s rights, including the right to choose, and the working men and women of organized labor.
At home, Jeff is a volunteer and active member of our community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of No More Stolen Childhoods. He previously served on the boards of the Bender JCC and the Jewish Social Service Agency. He also served as Chair of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, Chair of the NAACP’s Legal Redress Committee, and Pro Bono Counsel to the Sierra Club.
A member of multiple bar associations, Jeff received his B.A. Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University in Political Science and History. He earned his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, where he was an editor of the law review.
Born and raised in Montgomery County, Jeff grew up in Silver Spring and attended Montgomery County Public Schools. He lives with his wife, Joanna, and their three young children in Kensington. They are active members of Temple Shalom in Chevy Chase, where Jeff served on the Social Justice Committee and as a substitute Hebrew School teacher. On evenings and weekends, you can find Jeff and his family riding bikes, visiting neighborhood playgrounds, and spending time with family.
